Kindness
There are many methods to achieve a successful ABA program based on the skills and principles of Applied Behavior Analysis, however, it takes very little effort to be kind and great results can be achieved. When parents have a newly diagnosed child, there can be many worries as to the future success of that child. When you lead with kindness, you build connections. When you build connections, changes happen.
Take for example, a child who needs to learn a difficult skill such as shoe tying. If the child trusts their therapist, they are much more likely to want to learn, even when the skill becomes difficult. This can make in-home ABA a much more pleasant experience and build a community in which the child belongs.
Gone are the days of strict discrete trials at the table. ABA can take place anywhere. This is an especially effective strategy for toddlers and new learners.
